Plain-English definitions of the trading terms that start with Z.
Z
- Zero-Knowledge Privacy
- Privacy achieved through validity proofs, allowing correctness to be verified without disclosing underlying data.
- Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP)
- A proof that a statement is true without revealing any information beyond the truth of the statement itself.
- ZK Coprocessor
- A system enabling smart contracts to verifiably use results of heavy off-chain computation over historical chain data.
- ZK Rollup (Validity Rollup)
- A rollup that submits a cryptographic validity proof with each state update, allowing the Layer 1 to verify correctness directly without a challenge period.
- ZK-SNARK
- Succinct Non-interactive Argument of Knowledge. A compact, quickly verifiable zero-knowledge proof; most constructions require a trusted setup.
- ZK-STARK
- Scalable Transparent Argument of Knowledge. Requires no trusted setup and is considered post-quantum resistant, at the cost of larger proof sizes.
- zkEVM
- A zero-knowledge proving system capable of proving correct execution of EVM bytecode, allowing existing Ethereum contracts to run on a ZK rollup.
