OTCN Research daily crypto trade signals cover, Friday 16 October 2026

5 crypto trade ideas for 16 October 2026: 4 long and 1 short. Entry, stop and two targets are given for each, with the reasoning and the level at which the idea is abandoned.

Today’s framework

Friday 16 October 2026. Bitcoin fell to 79,800 overnight and was back at 82,500 within two hours, the third defence of the 80,400 area in a week; a close above 84,000, where the jump after Wednesday’s inflation data ran out, is the real confirmation. Ether, Solana and Avalanche rose yesterday, but their structures remain mixed.

Four of the ideas are long and one is short, all taken at the market. All are medium-term ideas. Bitcoin, ether, Solana and Avalanche are on the long side after yesterday’s rebound; XRP is the short, with lower highs and lower lows and a 13% lag behind the benchmark over the past month.

Trade ideas

The entry condition says whether the idea is taken at the market or only once a stated level, a confirmation or the data release is met.

  • 1. BTC — long.
Bitcoin is at $82,056; last night it dropped to 79,800 and was back at 82,500 within two hours, and the 80,400 area has now been defended for the third time in a week. The structure is still mixed, however, and no series of higher lows has formed yet. The real confirmation is a close above 84,000; that is where the jump after Wednesday’s inflation data ran out.
Invalidated if: A close below 79,800.
  • 2. ETH — long.
Ether is at $2,442 and rose 3.83% yesterday, but the weekly loss is 1.31% and the structure is mixed. Technically it sits at a critical point: a horizontal support line around 2,350 intersects the rising line from the July lows. The horizontal line has held since 23 August; a break below this intersection would mean a serious weakening in demand.
Invalidated if: A close below 2,350.
  • 3. SOL — long.
Solana is at $105.72 and rose 3.70% yesterday; the weekly loss is still 3.56% and its structure is mixed. The Alpenglow upgrade is due on 21 October and aims to cut finality time to 150 milliseconds; this is a concrete technical development.
Invalidated if: A close below 100.62.
  • 4. AVAX — long.
Avalanche is at $10.075 and was among the strongest in crypto yesterday with a 5.62% gain; the monthly gain is 38.58% and it is 15.7% above its 200-day average. Its structure is mixed, so the size is small.
Invalidated if: A close below 9.34.
  • 5. XRP — short.
XRP is at $1.3361 and its structure is one of lower highs and lower lows, which on its own points to a short; over the past month it has lagged the benchmark by 13% and it screens as a short setup. A structural point matters here: circulating supply has risen 63% since 2017, so even if market value holds, the price cannot reach its old peak. Spot volume has fallen 53.5% and active addresses 10.7%.
Invalidated if: A close above 1.348.
