6 crypto trade ideas for 21 October 2026: 2 long and 4 short. Entry, stop and two targets are given for each, with the reasoning and the level at which the idea is abandoned.

Today’s framework

Wednesday 21 October 2026. Bitcoin is at 82,672 after rising 1.12% yesterday and needs to get above 84,000 ahead of next week’s Fed meeting. The altcoins also rose yesterday, and Solana’s largest network upgrade since 2020 goes live today.

Two of the ideas are long and four are short, all taken at the market. All are medium-term ideas. Bitcoin and Solana, whose network upgrade goes live today, are on the long side; ether, XRP, Avalanche and Cardano are on the short side, each having trailed bitcoin by 8.2% to 10.2% over the past month.

  • 1. BTC — long.
Bitcoin is at $82,672 after rising 1.12% yesterday, and over the past month it is slightly ahead of the market. The price pulled back after touching 83,439 and needs to get above 84,000 ahead of next week’s Fed meeting. JPMorgan has given a return forecast for bitcoin for the first time: 10% a year in the ten-year base case and minus 9.7% in the bear case.
Invalidated if: A close below 82,600.
  • 2. ETH — short.
Ether is at $2,439.32 and is making consecutive lower highs and lower lows; the monthly loss is 7.78% and it has trailed bitcoin by 8.2% over the past month. It rose 1.70% yesterday, which offers a better level to sell. As long as the structure is down, recoveries count as selling opportunities.
Invalidated if: A close above 2,478.
  • 3. SOL — long.
Solana is at $105.71 after rising 1.07% yesterday. Its largest network upgrade since 2020 goes live today, and transaction finality will fall from about six seconds to 150 milliseconds. Because validator votes are moving off-chain, the transaction count will drop sharply; this is not a problem, but it may distort readings of the data in the first days. The structure is mixed, so the size is small.
Invalidated if: A close below 103.6.
  • 4. XRP — short.
XRP is at $1.3339 with lower highs and lower lows; it has trailed bitcoin by 9.7% over the past month and the monthly loss is 5.43%. It rose 2.39% yesterday, but that is a reaction that does not change the structure. The steady rise in circulating supply makes it harder for the price to recover.
Invalidated if: A close above 1.347.
  • 5. AVAX — short.
Avalanche is at $9.647 and has trailed bitcoin by 10.2% over the past month; the monthly loss is 14.73% and the weekly loss 5.68%. It rose 0.86% yesterday but remains below $10.
Invalidated if: A close above 9.92.
  • 6. ADA — short.
Cardano is at $0.2223 and has trailed bitcoin by 8.5% over the past month; the weekly loss is 5.81%. It rose 2.44% yesterday, which offers a better level to sell.
Invalidated if: A close above 0.227.
